It’s common for people experiencing suicidal thoughts to express their distress to people in their everyday life. QPR is an essential training that helps you become better prepared to have conversations surrounding suicide and offer support to those in crisis. Standing for Question, Persuade, and Refer, the nationally-recognized QPR certification training teaches people without professional mental health backgrounds to recognize signs that someone may be considering suicide, establish a supportive dialogue, and guide the person to seek professional help. QPR uses three simple steps that anyone can use to help save a life, making it ideal for everyday people in our community (e.g., parents, friends, neighbors, students, teachers, coaches, etc.).
If you are in crisis or you think you may have an emergency, call your doctor or 911 immediately. If you're having suicidal thoughts, call 988 to talk to a skilled, trained counselor at a crisis center in your area at any time (National Suicide Prevention Lifeline). If you are located outside the United States, call your local emergency line immediately.
